Sarah Silver

Friday August 12, 2008

Sarah Silver's performance grabbed the attention of the audience from the first note. Her guitar playing was natural and a bit intricate. Brand new sounding support for soothing lilting melodies that demanded you to pay attention. But sort of in a absolute 180 degree turn to the usual celebrity stars we are served. I was distinctly reminded of Janis Ian. Later Sarah admitted to this influence. We are really happy you played for us Ms. Silver and hope you can return with your bass playing counterpart Chris in September.

Matt Pless

Friday August 12, 2008

Matt Pless reminded us of feelings about the enormous number of baby boomer children that are trying to be rock stars. His grim insights and wry wit are good medicine for the many many productive lives that might be better spent making careers in brain surgery or car washing than in music. Matt is one of the most traveled road warriors we've had the pleasure to interview. This guy is true grit! His music was also seasoned crafted and nostalgic - Mr. Pless here's to the harmonica and the road.

Elijah Tucker

Friday, August 12, 2008

Elijah Tucker played a set of old time blues that was informed by bygone days. His guitar, garb , hat, and home town manner seemed to step out from a different time. The music was carefully made and the song writing excellent. Elijah is a very hard working musician with many interests. and varied projects- and his manager / girlfriend was a pleasant surprise to have jump on the mike during his interview.

Kevin Dugan

Friday August 12, 2008

Kevin Dugan played a droning set of old time blues. The music and interview is a darker mood. Brooding, thick, and heavy - Kevin's sonorous vibe lays over a room like smoke from a musky incense.

July Miles

Friday Evening, August 1, 2008

July Miles have a studied jazzy look at the vocalist and guitar combo. The musicianship is nuanced and grooving. They snuck up on me.. at first the music feels rather timeless or familier... and then draws you to details and ornaments that could be missed if not focused. I recommend that while you enjoy these songs you give this artist duo and their interview a second listen... These guys are by their own admission still toying with fame... but as far as their music goes.. they make a fresh new sound seem like child's play.

Stern Emily and Chris Conly

Friday Evening, August 1, 2008
Emily really wasn't so stern.. in fact she's easy to speak with and so was skillful guitar playing straight man Chris. They played arty songs that were original in scope and musical influences. From a Jamaican sea chantey to spoken word in style ... the performance had a beatnik meets Kabbalist magic to it... Hopeful words and simple songs of dreamy spirituality with tasty guitar musings. While relaxing the attention of this listener-- my mind didn't stray from the performance... but just sort of wandered in a garden of Emily's dense sonorous delivery of lyrics. The result was an easy to listen to fun soul cleanse of ambiance that Chris and Emily can play all night.

Alli Millstien - The importance of being earnest...

Friday Evening July 18, 2008

Alli Millstien's way of doing her song's is unrelenting. She fired into her performance with calm quiet self assured abandon. Sort of like bungie jumping. The sound was folksy and her voice was pleasant... Well written songs... but her earnestness and clarity of purpose was what inspired me. Alli is on a path. She has a plan. Systematically and with the most efficient use of resources. And by the way she's just gosh so nice. But don't let her girl next door package fool you...She is a woman with a goal. Alli Millstien's got the future of music networking understood stone cold and she's got nice pleasant songs to move you with.

Thea Nichelle thinks relationships have something to teach us... sorta

Friday Evening July 18, 2008 Thea-Nichelle
Thea's statuesque profile and broad smile warmed me to her poetry... Her words are delivered in even style but brim with a reserved electricity... She explains in her interview that she plans her work in an abstract way - outlining first... This was refreshing - most poetry (in the form of hip hop lyrics) I've been attacked with lately lashed out without any forethought and seemed calculated to dominate with sensational or shocking content... Though Thea tells us her poetry comes from her experience in relationships... she is reasoning with us. She won't allow a sound bite... She wants us to sit with her for a hearty meal of words that she will carefully prepare. The video of this performance may take several minutes to load so be patient.

Jervis croons zen jazz at seven summer sessions

July 18, 2008

Jervis has a "zen" vibe about him... Everything is just sort of "one"... Here's the video of his performance and a short description of his guitar. He was originally from Yokohama and likes Bushwick and taco stands... The most important influences are jazz centric and his music flows like some sort of rambling dream. His interview was quiet and thoughtful - he seemed a bit shy about his early recordings in Tokyo as the english speaking Japanese singer in a punk band. Jervis is one of those people who seems to have found his center.

Shark Dragon Cow throws the chips

Friday Evening July 11, 2008
Shark Dragon Cow swam flew and sauntered into earshot to provide many hours of steamy passionate goodness... We can only include a portion of the complete performance and interview - but theres rumours of a complete raw version available other places online. Please remember that they don't like the term "Supergroup". But they do like to sing about Old Men.

Arthur Kremer cant stop this war.

Friday Evening July 11, 2008
Arthur Kremer's infuences include John Lennon- he is experimenting with a sound I like to call "modern nostalgia". We were lucky to get him as he has made very few public appearances... Arthur performed three songs for us. The recording turned out low fi so he was asked to be re-interviewed... he was very kind and we will get you a audible audio interview asap
